How to Build a Mutual Fund Screen for a Flexi Cap Fund

by Pranav Nanekar Mar 12, 2025

Example 3: How to Build a Mutual Fund Screen for a Flexi Cap Fund

In this example, we will aim to shortlist Equity: Flexi Cap funds that have consistently shown good risk-adjusted returns.

We’ll start with selecting our broad category. Select Equity: Flexi Cap from the MF category.

Now from the available 95, we’ll aim to shortlist the best-performing ones. Next, we’ll select the top funds that have generated benchmark-beating returns over a longer horizon. Select the Top 25% in Alpha (3Y).

Next, we need funds that are not just giving benchmark-beating returns but are also low in volatility. Let’s choose the bottom 20% of funds in a Volatility (3Y).

Finally, we will select mutual funds with good AUM. We do that by choosing AUM and selecting the Top 30%.

And there you have it. Only 1 mutual fund remains.

That’s it for our article. We hope you’re now ready to play around with different metrics and create your MF screens, too.

We’ll now move on to our next category, ETF screeners.
