MF/ETF Magicboard is a great feature of sharpely where users can see MF/ETF of a particular category or follow a particular benchmark. The Magicboard allows users to filter MF/ETFs on the top level, for more detailed analysis, users can use the MF/ETF screener.
Users can use this tool for top-level filtration of mutual funds. You can find this tool in Analysis Tools 👉 Mutual Funds (as shown below). Let’s explore it more. (Similarly, you can select the ETF Magicboard by clicking on the ETFs column.)
In this step, we have to select the universe we want to filter. For mutual funds, we have three options.
You can select the universe of your choice for the top-level filtration process.
This tool allows users to filter the fund universe based on 2 broad filtering parameters.
Selecting ‘Filter by Category’ let’s go ahead.
As shown below, users can filter mutual funds based on the fund categories. We categorize MF/ETFs into more than 40 categories. We follow the ValueReseach framework for categorization. You can find more details about it here.
Apart from Category, users can also filter mutual funds that follow a particular benchmark. sharpely provides over 250 benchmarks for the filtration process.
You can also add or remove the parameters using advanced settings in the MF/ETF Magicboard tool.
You can rearrange the existing parameters and add and remove parameters. sharpely provides more than 50 parameters for an in-depth comparison of mutual funds.
Investors can use various factors (metrics) to compare funds, such as basic filters (AUM, expense ratio, benchmark), relative performance (alpha, quarterly and yearly consistency), portfolio measures (P/E ratio, P/B ratio, modified duration), and risk measures (fund volatility, category volatility, max drawdown).
Apart from this you can also see heatmaps and download the Magicboard.
For ETF comparison and analysis, trading volume is an important parameter. You will see that when you open the ‘Basic filters’ tab at the time of customizing the columns. And factors like minimum SIP amount become irrelevant. So, they won’t be shown in the ETF basic filters. You can compare the ‘Basic filters’ tab of the MF and ETF screener below.
That’s it, folks! Now you have a complete understanding of the MF/ETF Magicboard tool.
Now let’s take some examples to understand the practical use of the tool.
Suppose an investor wants to see all the mutual funds of the Flexicap category. For that, the investor will choose ‘mutual fund’ as the universe and ‘Equity: Flexi Cap’ as the category (from the ‘filter by’ option).
Now the investor will be able to see all the flexi-cap mutual funds together.
As mentioned in step 3, the investor can now modify the columns as per his/her preference.
And you can also see the Heatmap by clicking on it. Toggle between your choice of timeframe. That’s it.
If the user wants to see all the ETFs that follow the domestic price of gold as a benchmark. For that, the user will open ETF Magicboard and select the domestic price of gold as the benchmark.
As we can see, all the ETFs having the domestic price of gold as the benchmark will be visible. Again, the investor will be able to customize the column as per his/her preference.
