Axis Bank bets on data centres to gold loans to outpace industry credit growth
Axis Bank Limited expects credit growth 300 bps faster than the industry average in the current fiscal year, with CEO Amitabh Chaudhry citing demand from data centres, renewable energy, manufacturing, small businesses and gold loans. The bank reported standalone net profit of Rs 71.14 billion for the quarter ended June versus Rs 58.06 billion a year earlier, with net interest income up 8% to Rs 146.46 billion on 19% domestic loan growth. Chaudhry said gold loans surged 94% year-on-year in June and that data-centre lending requires discipline. Axis Bank Limited is also preparing listings for Axis Max Life Insurance within 12-18 months after a potential restructuring with joint venture partner Max Financial following regulatory changes, and for Axis Finance after assets rise from over Rs 500 billion to the Rs 1 trillion threshold required by the Reserve Bank of India.
