GAIL (India) Limited paid more than $23 per million British thermal units for a September LNG cargo on the spot market, among the most expensive imports into India since 2022, according to people familiar with the matter. The higher cost comes as Qatar's export terminal was damaged by Iranian attacks in March and shipments remain largely blocked from the Strait of Hormuz, while competition from European buyers has pushed gas prices to a five-month high.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has authorised GAIL (India) Limited to develop three LPG pipelines totalling 1,800 km with an estimated investment of Rs 7,000 crore, comprising the 556 km Cherlapally to Nagpur, 611 km Jhansi to Sitarganj and 633 km Shikrapur to Goa and Hubli routes, which will expand the PNGRB-authorised common carrier LPG network from 7,700 km to 9,500 km.
