India to give Canada's Fairfax two years to consolidate holdings for IDBI Bank deal: Sources
Life Insurance Corporation of India, which jointly with the federal government holds the majority stake in IDBI Bank Limited, is part of the proposed sale to Canada's Fairfax Financial. Sources said the more than $5 billion transaction is in final stages after revised bids and bureaucratic clearance and is now before a ministerial committee pending Reserve Bank of India and Securities and Exchange Board of India approvals.

LIC India Consolidated June 2026 Net Sales at Rs 239,865.70 crore, up 6.76% Y-o-Y
Life Insurance Corporation of India reported consolidated total income from operations of Rs 239,865.70 crore for June 2026, up 6.76% from Rs 224,671.49 crore a year earlier, and net profit after minority interest and associates of Rs 13,584.25 crore, up 23.98% from Rs 10,957.05 crore, while EPS fell to Rs 10.74 from Rs 17.32 despite higher profit, with EBITDA rising 21.3% to Rs 15,453.17 crore.

LIC gets RBI approval to increase HDFC Bank stake to 10% from 4%. Details here
Life Insurance Corporation of India received Reserve Bank of India approval on August 19, 2026, to increase its holding in HDFC Bank Limited to up to 9.99% of paid-up share capital or voting rights from 4.11% as of August 14, 2026. The RBI approval, disclosed by HDFC Bank, is conditional on adherence to the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, RBI (Commercial Banks Acquisition and Holding of Shares or Voting Rights) Directions, 2025, FEMA, SEBI regulations and other applicable laws.
