How the Goal SIP Calculator works

Goal-based SIP planning inverts the usual calculation: instead of asking what a SIP becomes, it asks what SIP produces a fixed future value. The calculator searches for the smallest monthly amount whose projected value meets your target.

Adding a step-up lets you begin with a smaller SIP that grows with your income. The total you invest is often similar; the difference is how the burden is spread over time.

Remember to set the target in future rupees. ₹1 crore in 15 years buys what about ₹42 lakh buys today at 6% inflation — use the inflation calculator to size the goal.

P = Target ÷ { [ ((1+i)^n − 1) / i ] × (1+i) }

Worked example

  • Target amount: ₹1,00,00,000
  • Years to goal: 15 Yr
  • Expected return (p.a.): 12%

To reach ₹1 crore in 15 years at 12% p.a. you need a flat SIP of about ₹19,800 a month: ₹35.7 lakh invested, ₹64 lakh from returns. With a 10% annual step-up you can start near ₹11,000 and let the raises carry you.
