Match it to your expected salary growth: 5–10% is realistic for most salaried investors. Even 5% a year makes a noticeable difference over 15–20 years.

How the Step Up SIP Calculator works
A step-up (or top-up) SIP increases the monthly instalment by a fixed percentage once a year. Because your income usually grows, keeping the SIP flat means you invest a shrinking share of what you earn.
The calculator runs two SIPs in parallel: one flat, one stepping up every 12 months. The difference in the final value is what the annual increases add — the larger the tenure, the bigger the gap.
Most AMCs let you set a step-up while registering a SIP (fixed ₹ or % per year). You can also do it manually by starting a fresh SIP each year.
FV = Σ over years y of [ P × (1+s)^(y−1) ] × FV-annuity factor for the months remaining
- P
- starting monthly SIP
- s
- annual step-up %
- y
- year number (1 … n)
Worked example
- Starting monthly SIP: ₹5,000
- Annual step-up: 10%
- Expected return (p.a.): 12%
- Time period: 15 Yr
A flat ₹5,000 SIP for 15 years at 12% grows to about ₹25 lakh on ₹9 lakh invested. Stepping it up 10% a year means you invest about ₹19 lakh in total (the SIP reaches ₹19,000 in year 15) and the corpus ends near ₹43 lakh — roughly 70% more, for increases you would barely notice against annual raises.
