A common rule is 4–5% of the corpus a year (₹17,000–21,000 a month per ₹50 lakh) for a corpus that must last 25+ years. The calculator gives the exact figure for your return and period.

How the SWP Calculator works
An SWP redeems a fixed amount from a mutual fund every month and credits it to your bank account, while the remaining units keep growing. It is the mirror image of a SIP and the standard way to draw a monthly income from a corpus.
The calculator withdraws at the start of each month and then applies one month of growth to the balance. If the withdrawal exceeds what growth adds, the corpus depletes; the table shows exactly when.
The "max withdrawal" tile is the sustainable rate: the largest monthly amount that leaves the corpus at zero — not before — at the end of your chosen period.
Balance(m+1) = ( Balance(m) − W ) × (1 + r/12)
- W
- monthly withdrawal
- r
- annual return
Worked example
- Total investment (corpus): ₹50,00,000
- Monthly withdrawal: ₹30,000
- Expected return (p.a.): 8%
- Withdrawal period: 20 Yr
₹50 lakh earning 8% with ₹30,000 withdrawn monthly: over 20 years you take out ₹72 lakh and the corpus still finishes near ₹68 lakh, because growth (~₹4 lakh a year) exceeds the ₹3.6 lakh withdrawn. Raise the withdrawal to ₹50,000 and the corpus is exhausted before year 20.
