Coal India Limited is allowing thermal power plants with Fuel Supply Agreements with the company and its subsidiaries to procure additional coal beyond annual contracted quantities via road transport alongside rail supplies, as Central Electricity Authority data showed combined stocks at 27.1 million tonnes versus 57.7 million tonnes recommended. Coal India Limited's average daily output recovered to 1.7 MT on Friday and its April-August supplies rose 6.7% year-on-year to 322.9 MT despite rain-disrupted mining.

Coal India Limited's subsidiaries Northern Coalfields, Central Coalfields and South Eastern Coalfields were asked by the Indian government to improve coal loading to strengthen supplies to the power sector. Coal India Limited reported total supplies of 322.90 million tonnes in the first five months of FY27, up 6.7% year on year, amid high power demand and depleted stocks at thermal power plants.
