How the APY Calculator works
APY is a government-guaranteed pension for the unorganised sector: contribute a fixed amount from joining age until 60 and receive ₹1,000–₹5,000 a month for life, then to your spouse, with the accumulated corpus paid to the nominee after both.
Contributions are fixed by a PFRDA chart — the younger you join, the smaller the monthly amount because it compounds longer. Income-tax payers are no longer eligible to join (since October 2022).
Monthly contribution = PFRDA chart[joining age][pension slab]
Worked example
- Age at joining: 25 yrs
- Guaranteed monthly pension: ₹5,000
Joining at 25 for a ₹5,000 pension costs ₹376 a month for 35 years — about ₹1.58 lakh in total — and the nominee receives ₹8.5 lakh after both subscriber and spouse.
