SSY rate 8.2% p.a. (quarter starting 2026-07-01); revised quarterly. Deposits assumed at the start of each year for 15 years from opening; account matures 21 years after opening.
How the Sukanya Samriddhi Calculator works
SSY can be opened for a girl child below 10. You deposit for 15 years; the account keeps earning interest until it matures 21 years after opening. Interest is compounded annually and, like PPF, the scheme is EEE.
Up to 50% of the balance at the end of the previous year can be withdrawn once she turns 18 (or passes 10th standard) for education; the account can also be closed on her marriage after 18.
Balance(y) = [ Balance(y−1) + Deposit(y) ] × (1 + r), deposits in years 1–15, interest till year 21
- r
- annual SSY rate
Worked example
- Yearly deposit: ₹1,00,000
- Daughter's age at opening: 3 yrs
- SSY interest rate: 8.2%
₹1 lakh a year for 15 years at 8.2% builds about ₹47,88,079 by the time the account matures — on ₹15 lakh of deposits, all of it tax-free.
